Biography
One of the founding members of the Pop Art movement in France, Alain Jacquet was best known for his use of silk-screening. He studied philosophy before dedicating himself to art, joining the Paris Fine Arts School from 1960 to 1963 and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière right after for one year. In the 1960s, Alain Jacquet worked alongside artists such as Martial Raysse and in 1964, he produced his first silkscreen on canvas, "La Marianne", which was met with critical success. Thus he started producing silkscreens of iconic paintings as da Vinci’s "Mona Lisa", Picasso's "Les Demoiselles d’Avignon", and Ingres’ "La Grande Odalisque", which he reproduced by reducing their size and using vivid, contrasting colors. In the early 1970s, Alain Jacquet began to explore sculpture and created works that played with the perception of space and the relationship between the object and the viewer. His works are included in the collections of over 40 international museums, including the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Geneva; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Musée d’Art Moderne, Paris; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris among others.
