Keith Haring American, 1958-1990

As one of the most important graffiti artist, after attending commercial art school and moving to New York to attend the School of Visual Arts, Keith Haring was perfectly integrated into the New York underground art scene, galvanized by the stimulating atmosphere in which he encountered artists and friends such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, among others. As his compositions were invading NYC’s underground, Haring began to make a name for himself with these iconic drawings known as an abstract representation of his decadent imagination. Sensitive to the social demands of his time, Haring was a precursor of a popular and contemporary art form in which he staged scenarios sometimes denouncing social and political injustice. In ten years, Keith Haring acquired an international status that led him to present his works in numerous renowned exhibitions - Documenta 7 (Kassel), the São Paulo Biennial, the Whitney Biennial (New York). His works can be found in the permanent collection of major museums including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Albertina Museum (Vienna) and many others.
